It’s also worth mentioning that bitches can also benefit from being spayed. After having puppies, I had my present German Shepherd bitch, Kara, hysterectomised to prevent her having the same infected womb problem that two of my earlier GSDs suffered in later life.

Good point Roger! My experience is only with dogs, not bitches, but I guess the same sort of pros and cons apply, no matter what the sex.
