The Parks Trust wants to hear from MK dog owners
Posted by ralphie007 in Blog on January 24, 2012
Dog owners and walkers in Milton Keynes are being asked for their views in a bid to encourage responsible ownership and a sense of community.
The Parks Trust is holding an open evening for dog owners on Thursday 23 February from 7pm until 8.30pm at Campbell Park Pavilion, 1300 Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes, MK9 4AD to talk all things dog and parks related.
They’re interested in what type of dog-related events you’d like to see or be involved in and to listen to your thoughts about encouraging responsible dog ownership. See here for full details.

Suggested places to walk your dogs in Milton Keynes area
Posted by journonest in Blog, Walkies on January 8, 2012
Dogs MK duo Jackie and Georgia run a dog walking and sitting service and who better to suggest good walkies than those who do it for a living! So huge thanks to Georgia for submitting her top five dog walks in Milton Keynes, in no particular order.
1. Middleton and Woolstone
Here you can follow the river along and it’s very safe road wise ( you go under Brickhill Street, but dogs can be off lead most of the time). Free parking at the little car park Woodall Close (very handy for Willen) or by the allotments, Newport Road. Sometimes there are cattle or sheep in the fields on the Woolstone side of the river but not on the Monkston side. River lovely and clean if the dogs like a dip, or get muddy.
2. Shenley Wood and Oakhill Wood
(Behind Prison), through to the North Bucks Way if you want a really long trek. If you cross the footbridge over V3 from Shenley Wood to ’the Toot’ , that’s a really good hilly site the dogs love, though again is sometimes occupied by sheep.
3. Ouzel Valley Park
Park at Manor Fields, Bletchley, and follow river or canal towards Stoke Hammond. Nice safe stretch, no livestock or roads.
4 Grand Union Canal at Great Linford
Marsh Drive, Millennium Orchard, great for dogs that like snuffling around in the rough but beware, plenty of smelly stuff to roll in! Follow the canal past the Black Horse to the huge field on the right, I often take a group of dogs there for a big, safe runaround.
5. Woughton on the Green
The field opposite St Mary’s Church, (no livestock there at the moment but often there is), especially good for dogs that tend to run off as it’s enclosed. From there you can continue to Woolstone, along the canal or across the big playing field to join the river or Walton Lake.
And yet more places to walk your dogs…
Some walkies have also been recommended by Emily Stritser via the ‘submit‘ section on this website. She says: “OMG, MK and surrounding areas are so great for dog walking, there is no way I could name all the places I walk my dogs but here are a few good ones: Waterhall Park, Shenley Woods, Howe Park Woods, Simpson, Woughton on the Green, Bow Brickhill Woods, Harrold County Park, Emberton Park, Willen Lake, Blue Lagoon, Teardrop Lakes, Furzton Lake, Emerson Valley, Tattenhoe, Caldecotte Lake, Ouzel Valley Park, Stockgrove Park, Linford Wood…. there is no way anyone could get bored walking at all these places!!”
Thanks to MK Dogs and to Emily, all these walks have now been added to the walkies map. And don’t forget, if you can suggest a good walk or dog friendly attraction in the area – or can add some information about the ones already included, please let us know. You can get in touch by emailing us at woof@ralphie.co.uk, using the submit form or commenting at the bottom of this, or any other, article.
January 2012: spot the walkies competition
Posted by ralphie007 in Blog, Fun stuff, Walkies on January 4, 2012
Happy New Year! So, January’s ‘spot the walkies’ competition is a tough one. This photograph was taken last spring when blue skies prevailed – walkies is so much nicer in the sunshine! Don’t forget there are doggy treats up for grabs for correct guesses but I could be persuaded to give a small clue if you’re struggling…
Good luck, get guessing!
